Caroline's Story

Caroline has faced significant health challenges and financial hardship in recent years. In her own words, she shares how the compassionate support of the Maidstone Day Centre staff helped her regain stability, and find renewed hope for the future.

"I had always lived an independent life, before..."

I had always lived an independent life, before I had my stroke three years ago which changed my life drastically. I used to be a live in carer before all this happened and because of the stroke I couldn't work anymore so I had to go on universal credit to help me financially.

I still have health challenges. I have good days and bad days. I have uncontrolled blood pressure and pains down the right side of my body which the stroke caused by the stroke. I'm on six different medications and the side effects of those makes me very tired. Sometimes I have blood shots in my eyes and sever dizziness and headaches.

The Turning Point

The Day Centre felt homely and comfortable. I was warmly welcomed and the team were kind, listening to me without judgement, serving me nice hot food and drinks.

The team assured me that everything will be fine and promised to help me with my situation with the council. They made some phone calls on my behalf and put in a good word about my case with them. I was also seen by the community nurse, who also put in a good word for me with the council. Due to the support and effectiveness of the day centre staff, the council found me temporary accommodation.

The team at the Day Centre have helped me tremendously and I'm very grateful and thankful for the wonderful staff I have met here. Their efficiency, kindness, empathy and support has changed my life tremendously and given me more hope for the future.

Hopes For the Future

I hope to work on improving my health and getting back into work so that I can support myself financially. I feel like I am on a better path now.

To anyone in a similar situation I would advise them to register with Maidstone Day Centre to help them with their situation because they are very supportive and efficient.
